The AI Paradox: The End of an Era for the Traditional Doctor-Patient Relationship | by Hugo Campos | Aug, 2024 | Medium

T
he landscape of healthcare is undergoing a radical transformation that is set to redefine the very nature of the doctor-patient relationship. As we stand on the brink of this new era, we must consider how the rapid progress of artificial intelligence (AI) will reshape the roles of physicians and patients alike, and what we will gain or lose in the process.

Over the past six decades, technological advancements and systemic pressures have gradually eroded this once-sacred bond. The introduction of computers in medicine, the internet, and the mobile health revolution have gradually distanced doctors from patients.

Today, the emergence of AI in the medical field marks the most profound shift in this evolution — the end of the traditional doctor-patient relationship. While some may feel nostalgic for the days when human touch defined healthcare, the rise of AI will replace that touch with expedient access to knowledge, enhanced decision-making, and, paradoxically, more personalized care than ever before. We must embrace this change.

The use of electronic health records, remote monitoring, and telehealth have improved record keeping and storing data. EHRs actually decreased physician efficiency and have contributed to the early retirement of some physicians, "depression" and burnout as well as career changes for young physicians.

Artificial intelligence and ChatGPT are at the gates of a new world for medicine. It has just begun and in the next decade, it will 'learn' and improve its answers.

Physicians will utilize AI to check for errors, prescribe medications, and transcribe information into the EHR.  It will prepare pre-operative, and postoperative instructions and educational material.

The 10 Healthiest (and Unhealthiest) Fast Food Sandwiches in America

The 10 Healthiest (and Unhealthiest) Fast Food Sandwiches in America

One of the most effective ways to manage your weight and health is to eat a nutritious diet with whole foods.

But even as you build healthy eating habits, you may find yourself in need of a quick meal when you're on a tight schedule.

Fast food restaurants may not always have the most nutritious options (most fast food is considered ultraprocessed, which typically leaves you feeling less full), but if you're looking for a sandwich on the healthier side, focus on menu items that are high in protein and low in trans fat, net carbs, and calories.

Key Findings

  • The healthiest fast food sandwich is the Sourdough Grilled Chicken Club Sandwich from Jack in the Box.
  • The unhealthiest sandwich is the Big Fish from Burger King, primarily because of a relatively low protein content and high carb content.
  • Firehouse Subs and Chick-fil-A each hold three of the top 10 healthiest sandwiches.
  • Four Burger King sandwiches show up on the unhealthiest list.
  • Top-ranking healthy sandwiches included chicken or turkey rather than burgers, providing a good source of protein without too many calories that may help support a weight loss journey.
  • Grilled chicken sandwiches were more likely to appear on the healthy list, while more fried chicken options were on the unhealthy list.

Next, Health Train Express will cover the final ingredient to good health, SLEEP.
